A law firm in Chicago, IL, seeks an experienced Senior Discovery Attorney to lead eDiscovery efforts, collaborating with eMerge attorneys, technologists, case teams, and clients to ensure effective management of discovery processes while maintaining compliance and achieving favorable case outcomes.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with eMerge attorneys, technologists, case teams, and clients to develop and manage case-specific eDiscovery workflows and protocols aimed at risk mitigation, cost control, and defensibility.
  • Oversee and ensure the quality of work and deliverables for eMerge Discovery Attorneys, Project Attorneys, technologists, and service providers, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in all tasks.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to case teams and clients throughout all phases of discovery, including preservation, production, and post-production activities such as deposition and trial preparation.
  • Stay abreast of eDiscovery laws, regulations, and industry best practices to inform strategic decision-making and ensure compliance.
  • Effectively communicate complex legal and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Utilize proficiency in the preservation, filtering, and export capabilities of corporate messaging, collaboration, and productivity solutions, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Preferred expertise with eDiscovery software, particularly Relativity.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois and in good standing.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in eDiscovery within a law firm environment.
  • Thorough understanding of eDiscovery laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex legal and technical concepts effectively.
  • Proficiency in using eDiscovery tools and platforms, with specific experience in Relativity considered a significant advantage.

Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership and project management skills to oversee complex eDiscovery projects effectively.
  • Analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and across different departments.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking skills.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certification in eDiscovery (e.g., Relativity Certified Administrator) is desirable.

This is a branch office of an exciting national law firm with nationwide litigation practice in general trial and appellate practice before state and federal courts, insurance coverage litigation and counseling, directors and officers liability, professional liability, environmental/mass tort coverage, white collar criminal defense, real estate and golf course development, biotech, and general business counseling. The Chicago office is focused on insurance coverage litigation and counseling for clients in Chicago and the Midwest. The lawyers of this small office seem to truly enjoy working together.
