Job Title: Professional Responsibility Counsel

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is currently seeking an experienced Professional Responsibility Counsel (PRC) to join its legal team. This key position involves collaborating closely with the firm's co-general Counsel to ensure compliance with professional conduct rules, manage conflicts of interest, and address professional responsibility matters. The PRC will play a vital role in evaluating and resolving potential ethical and liability issues and will have a significant impact on maintaining the firm’s reputation for ethical legal practices.

Duties:

  • Stay current with the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as rules in jurisdictions where the firm operates, ensuring an understanding of jurisdictional differences.
  • Review conflict screening reports and provide timely, clear evaluations, identifying potential issues and offering solutions.
  • Assist attorneys in resolving conflicts and drafting/reviewing conflict waivers.
  • Support the preparation and review of engagement letters for clients.
  • Analyze the work histories of potential new hires to identify and resolve any conflict issues.
  • Review and analyze outside counsel guidelines and requests for proposals.
  • Collaborate with the co-General Counsel in preparing written responses to subpoenas and assisting with document production.
  • Take on additional duties as directed by the co-general Counsel to further the firm’s professional responsibility objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal practice or role involving professional responsibility issues, with preference given to those with experience in large law firms or litigation.
  • Authorized to practice law in CA.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in CA.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of professional conduct rules and ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to evaluate complex professional responsibility matters.
  • Ability to manage conflicts and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
