Duties:

  • Work on all aspects of patent practice with a particular emphasis on patent application preparation and prosecution.
  • Provide technical expertise in life sciences patent practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and in-house counsel on intellectual property matters throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct freedom to operate and IP due diligence searches and analysis to support licensing, acquisitions, and research and development activities for small- and large-molecule products.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications, contributing to the development of robust patent portfolios for pipeline products and platform technologies.
  • Interact with clients, the USPTO, and foreign associates to manage domestic and foreign patent applications and strategies.
  • Participate in a collegial work environment with opportunities for professional advancement.
  • Receive training opportunities with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from diverse practice groups and offices.

Requirements:

  • Must be a registered patent attorney.
  • Possess an advanced degree and research experience in biological sciences.
  • 3-8 years of patent experience in life sciences.
  • Hold a Ph.D. in biological sciences (e.g., molecular or cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, organic chemistry, or biochemistry).
  • Demonstrate a superior academic record and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior law firm experience in patent matters within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.
  • Maintain current registration and good standing with the USPTO.
  • Display leadership skills and excel in a collaborative team environment.
  • Show an interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Have prior experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Be highly motivated, self-driven, and flexible in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Boast excellent law school credentials and strong references.
