A law firm seeks a motivated and experienced Patent Agent to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice in Rock Hill, SC, with the option for hybrid or fully remote work. This position requires an individual with a strong background in patent prosecution and a deep understanding of various industries, including mechanical, biomedical, and medical device technologies.

Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications for a diverse range of technologies.
  • Conduct in-depth patent searches and analyze patentability.
  • Develop strategies for patent portfolio management and provide advice to clients.
  • Respond to office actions and manage communications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Collaborate with attorneys to align intellectual property strategies with client business goals.
  • Offer technical insights and support across mechanical, biomedical, and medical device-related patent matters.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
  • Strong background in patent prosecution and patentability assessments.
  • Experience with mechanical, biomedical, or medical device patent law is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of USPTO filing procedures and patent laws.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information.

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s or PhD) are a plus.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the USPTO to practice as a Patent Agent.
