A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel with expertise in privacy and data security law, focusing on litigation and regulatory enforcement investigations. The role offers the opportunity to lead high-stakes matters related to consumer protection, data breach class actions, and regulatory proceedings. This position involves working on complex cases, collaborating with clients, and offering strategic legal counsel on evolving privacy and cybersecurity challenges.

Duties:

  • Litigation & Regulatory Enforcement:
    • Represent clients in privacy and data security disputes, including defending against class actions and regulatory investigations.
    • Handle cases related to consumer protection, including data breaches, unfair trade practices, and wiretapping claims.
    • Provide defense in complex matters involving federal and state privacy laws, including the Stored Communications Act.
  • Client Interaction & Leadership:
    • Lead significant projects and manage client relationships, providing expert guidance on privacy and cybersecurity issues.
    • Offer proactive advice on emerging regulatory trends and privacy risks affecting clients across industries.
  • Research & Legal Strategy:
    • Conduct in-depth legal research to support litigation and regulatory filings.
    • Develop strategies to address evolving legal and technical challenges in privacy and data security law.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with other practice areas to integrate privacy solutions into broader legal matters.
    • Work with colleagues to deliver coordinated and comprehensive legal services to clients.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in privacy, data security, or related litigation and regulatory enforcement matters.
  • Expertise in defending data privacy and security class actions, including those involving data breaches and deceptive trade practices.
  • Solid understanding of consumer protection laws, including the Stored Communications Act and wiretapping regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters and client relationships.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with a focus on clear, precise legal documentation.
  • Tech-savvy, with knowledge of current trends and technologies in privacy and cybersecurity law.

Education:

  • J.D. from a nationally recognized law school.

Certifications:

  • Active law license in the relevant jurisdiction.
