A prominent law firm is looking for an experienced Intellectual Property Trademark Attorney to join their team in Rochester, NY. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a legal professional with expertise in managing U.S. and international trademark portfolios. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trademark registration, clearance, and counseling, with a proven track record of handling opposition and cancellation proceedings before the USPTO’s TTAB. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must for this role. Litigation experience is considered an asset.

Duties:

  • Manage U.S. and international trademark portfolios for clients, including filing, registration, and clearance.
  • Provide legal counsel on trademark protection, enforcement, and strategic planning.
  • Oversee opposition and cancellation actions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the USPTO.
  • Draft and negotiate trademark licensing agreements and other related documents.
  • Represent clients in trademark litigation and alternative dispute resolution when necessary.
  • Work closely with clients to develop and implement trademark strategies aligned with their business goals.
  • Stay updated on changes in trademark law, ensuring compliance with current regulations and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with other legal teams within the firm to provide comprehensive IP support.

Requirements:

  • 4-8 years of direct experience managing U.S. and foreign trademark portfolios.
  • Expertise in trademark registration, clearance, and counseling.
  • Experience with opposition and cancellation actions before the TTAB.
  • Proven ability to handle complex intellectual property matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.
  • Litigation experience is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of New York.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international trademark law.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
