Job Overview:
A well-established regional law firm is seeking a Tax Associate to join its dynamic Tax Group. This position will involve supporting core tax transactional work, tax planning, and tax controversy services. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in tax law, a strong commitment to client service, and the ability to handle complex tax matters in a collaborative team environment. Location:

  • Seattle, WA

Duties:

  • Provide legal support in tax transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions and other corporate tax matters
  • Assist with tax planning and strategy development for clients in various industries
  • Handle tax controversy work, including preparing documents and representing clients in tax disputes
  • Draft and review legal documents, such as contracts, tax filings, and agreements
  • Conduct research and provide legal advice on complex tax issues
  • Maintain client relationships and ensure excellent service
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams within the firm to address clients' needs
  • Participate in business development and client outreach efforts

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in tax law, including tax transactional, planning, and controversy work
  • Strong interest and commitment to practicing in tax law
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong client service ethics and ability to manage client relationships effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Experience in tax law for businesses in sectors such as Technology, Healthcare, Real Estate, or Natural Resources is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • LLM in Taxation or CPA license preferred
  • Oregon or Washington State Bar admission required, or eligibility for immediate reciprocity

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of tax law, including transactional, planning, and controversy matters
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues and offer practical solutions
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work products
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues
