The attorney will be responsible for conducting legal research, providing legal advice, and negotiating on behalf of clients. Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research to support immigration and criminal cases, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Provide legal advice to clients in immigration and/or criminal law matters, clearly explaining legal options and possible outcomes.
  • Negotiate on behalf of clients, seeking favorable resolutions in both criminal and immigration cases.
  • Draft and file legal documents, including motions, pleadings, appeals, and legal memoranda.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, negotiations, and mediations related to criminal charges or immigration proceedings.
  • Maintain client communication throughout the legal process, offering updates, strategic advice, and reassurance.
  • Work with clients to prepare for court appearances and interviews, ensuring they understand procedures and are prepared for legal proceedings.
  • Stay updated on changes in immigration law, criminal law, and other relevant legal areas to provide clients with current and accurate advice.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff to ensure cases are managed effectively and deadlines are met.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Strong understanding of immigration and/or criminal law with the ability to advise clients on legal matters in these areas.
  • Legal research skills with the ability to find and analyze relevant statutes, case law, and legal precedents.
  • Negotiation skills with experience seeking resolutions that protect the interests of clients in both criminal and immigration cases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft legal documents and present cases effectively in court.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and work collaboratively with other legal professionals.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar or eligibility to obtain admission.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certification or coursework in immigration law or criminal law is beneficial but not required.
