A law firm seeks a talented and motivated Midlevel Litigation & Construction Associate to join its Construction and Insurance Recovery Department as well as the Litigation Practice Team in Portland, Oregon. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in construction law and litigation, including contract negotiations, dispute resolution, legal research, discovery, and motion practice. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is eager to take on challenging cases in a dynamic legal setting.

Duties:

  • Advise and represent clients in construction-related disputes, including contract negotiations, dispute analysis, and legal research.
  • Manage various phases of construction litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and dispositive motion filing.
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct factual investigations and collaborate with clients and experts to build case strategies.
  • Assist in negotiating settlements and resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution methods when applicable.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies for cases involving construction, insurance recovery, and related matters.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and trial preparations.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, providing clear updates on case progress and legal advice.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in construction law and litigation.
  • Strong skills in legal research, writing, and drafting pleadings.
  • Practical experience with all phases of construction litigation, including trial and motion practice.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team success.
  • Good judgment under pressure with the ability to manage multiple cases.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Must be a member of the Oregon State Bar or eligible for reciprocity. A Washington State Bar license is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Oregon State Bar (or eligibility to practice in Oregon).
  • Additional bar certifications in Washington or other states are beneficial.

Skills:

  • Expertise in construction law and experience in construction litigation, including knowledge of related statutes and regulations.
  • Proven track record in legal writing and document drafting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage client relationships and internal teamwork.
  • Knowledge of general corporate law and transactional experience in the construction industry is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage a high volume of cases.
