Job Overview:

The firm represents municipalities, owners, developers, and contractors on large-scale construction projects throughout Michigan. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in construction law and a passion for handling complex and high-profile development matters. Duties:

  • Advise clients on all aspects of development and construction projects.
  • Draft and negotiate contracts related to construction and development projects.
  • Counsel clients on real estate, financing, zoning, insurance, and environmental matters.
  • Assist in the planning and management of large, multifaceted construction projects.
  • Resolve disputes through meetings, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and litigation.
  • Analyze and review project specifications to ensure compliance with contracts.
  • Oversee claims, warranty submissions, and bond-related issues.
  • Represent clients in construction defect cases, including matters involving architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Prepare and manage construction liens, including lien foreclosure litigation.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and senior professionals to shape key projects in Michigan’s development landscape.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in construction law (firm experience or as general counsel), with a focus on large-scale commercial projects preferred.
  • Proven experience with construction contracts, project management, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex, technical matters related to construction projects.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience managing large, complex matters with multiple deliverables.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Bar license in Michigan (or ability to obtain).

Skills:

  • Expertise in construction law and contract negotiation.
  • Strong understanding of real estate, zoning, financing, and insurance matters.
  • Ability to manage construction litigation and dispute resolution processes.
  • Skilled in preparing and managing construction liens and related documents.
