Job Overview

A leading law firm is seeking a Tax Associate to join its Project Finance group, focusing on renewable energy projects and the energy transition. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with senior attorneys on tax-related matters involving solar, wind, geothermal, battery storage, carbon capture, and other similar projects. The successful candidate will gain exposure to cutting-edge developments in federal tax law and collaborate with industry leaders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Assist senior attorneys with tax matters related to renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and geothermal.
  • Provide guidance on tax credits, partnership taxation, and other incentives available under the Inflation Reduction Act and other relevant tax legislation.
  • Work alongside project developers, lenders, and investors on financing, structuring, and tax aspects of energy transition projects.
  • Draft tax opinions, memoranda, and related documents.
  • Stay current on federal tax law developments and renewable energy tax incentives.
  • Contribute to complex financings, mergers, and acquisitions (M&A) transactions in the renewable energy sector.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience as a tax lawyer, preferably with a focus on renewable energy or project finance.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy tax incentives, particularly those in the Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Strong academic credentials with a focus on tax law.
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • LLM in Taxation is preferred but not required.

Certifications

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Washington, D.C., New York, or other applicable jurisdictions).

  • Expertise in federal tax law, particularly regarding renewable energy projects.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
