A law firm in Portland, OR is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2+ years of experience in family law. The attorney will handle a variety of family law cases and work closely with clients throughout the legal process. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and communication skills and be able to manage family law cases independently. Additionally, there is an opportunity to collaborate with the firm’s appeals attorney and gain experience in handling appeal cases.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, property division, and adoption cases.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement agreements.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Provide legal counsel to clients throughout the family law process, offering clear and compassionate guidance on their legal rights and options.
  • Work closely with clients to develop case strategies and prepare them for court appearances, negotiations, and mediations.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on case progress and answering any questions or concerns.
  • Collaborate with the firm’s appeals attorney to gain experience in handling family law appeals, including assisting with legal research, drafting appellate briefs, and preparing for appellate arguments.
  • Ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements in all family law and appeal cases.
  • Stay updated on changes in Oregon family law and relevant legal precedents to provide clients with the most current legal advice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in family law, preferably in Oregon.
  • Licensed to practice law in Oregon is required.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents and present cases effectively in court.
  • Ability to manage family law cases independently, including preparing clients for court and negotiating settlements.
  • Experience conducting legal research and drafting legal documents in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Interest in learning to handle appeal cases and collaborate with the firm's appeals attorney.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Oregon State Bar is required.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Family law certifications or coursework related to appellate law is beneficial but not required.
