Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a Renewable Energy Project Development & Finance Associate to join its Corporate practice. The firm’s renewable energy team works on cutting-edge projects across wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage in the U.S. The role provides an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic team on complex and impactful renewable energy projects, with clients that include developers, investors, utilities, and corporate buyers. 

Location:

Cheyenne, WY

Duties:

  • Work with clients on renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage projects.
  • Provide legal counsel in the development, financing, and management of renewable energy projects.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review agreements, such as power purchase agreements, asset purchase and sale agreements, hedge contracts, construction contracts, and equipment supply agreements.
  • Collaborate with clients in the renewable energy industry, as well as conventional energy producers transitioning to clean energy.
  • Advise on regulatory and financial compliance issues for renewable energy projects.
  • Support mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, and other transactional matters in the renewable energy sector.
  • Assist with the negotiation and structuring of energy-related financial products.
  • Build strong client relationships and engage directly with clients on complex matters.
  • Contribute to the growth of the renewable energy practice by providing strategic and practical legal solutions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm setting, with a focus on project development, finance, mergers & acquisitions, or commercial contracts.
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with power purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, hedge contracts, construction agreements, or similar contracts is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team and work directly with clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex legal matters.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in the relevant state (or ability to waive in) is required.

Skills:

  • Expertise in renewable energy law and transactions.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Experience with mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance in the energy sector.
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent client relationship management and communication skills.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
