Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to join a leading Ohio-based defense practice. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience handling workers' compensation defense matters, with a focus on representing employers in various proceedings. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex workers' compensation cases and collaborate with a skilled team of professionals.

Location:

  • Akron, Ohio

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel on workers' compensation matters
  • Represent employers in workers' compensation claims, including administrative hearings, depositions, mediations, and court proceedings
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce employers' obligations and liabilities
  • Assist employers in obtaining and maintaining self-insured status
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, written discovery, motions, and other legal documents in support of defense strategies
  • Stay current with legal trends, regulations, and case law related to workers' compensation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts in state agencies, including the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Ohio
  • Strong understanding of Ohio workers' compensation laws and regulations
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience handling Ohio workers' compensation defense matters
  • Proven ability to reduce employers' obligations and liabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage an assigned caseload independently and work effectively within a team
  • Established network of contacts within the Ohio workers' compensation community

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Ohio Bar

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in Ohio

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Ohio workers' compensation law
  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients and state agencies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
