Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is currently seeking a mid-level Tax Associate to join its growing Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a lateral associate looking to work on high-impact projects in the affordable housing sector. The role will provide a chance to contribute to an expanding team while offering exposure to diverse legal work involving federal, state, and local tax programs related to affordable housing.

Location:

  • Baltimore, MD

Duties:

  • Provide legal support for the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing.
  • Advise clients in both for-profit and nonprofit sectors on various tax matters, including federal income tax credits and partnership tax issues.
  • Work with clients across the U.S., utilizing a wide array of federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to tax credits, real estate transactions, and affordable housing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide comprehensive and strategic legal guidance.
  • Maintain relationships with clients and provide regular legal updates and advice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in partnership tax law, with a preference for experience in federal income tax credits.
  • Background in accounting is required.
  • Member (in good standing) of any state bar.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting (required).
  • LLM in Taxation (preferred).

Certifications:

  • Active membership in a state bar (in good standing).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in partnership tax law and tax credits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex tax issues and provide strategic legal solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
