A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent in Chicago, IL:

Job Overview:

The Patent Agent will collaborate closely with the Intellectual Property (IP) team to draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. They will assist IP attorneys in patent-related proceedings, conduct patentability assessments, and support patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced law firm environment.

Duties:

• Work closely with the IP team to draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
• Assist IP attorneys in the representation of clients involved in Patent Office proceedings, patent litigation, and general patent prosecution matters
• Complete patentability assessments and conduct third-party patent searches
• Conduct patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions
• Assist the IP team as needed with patent clearance and enforcement projects

Requirements:

• Must have patent application drafting and prosecution experience
• Well-developed patent database search skills
• Substantive academic and professional knowledge in the field
• Excellent time management skills, both independently and collaboratively
• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering
• 3+ years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters
• Experience in prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical engineering fields, with additional chemistry or biochemistry experience preferred
• USPTO registration number
• Advanced technical degree preferred
