A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney to join their thriving practice in Houston, TX. Duties

  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Develop and present legal strategies tailored to clients’ immigration needs.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of immigration matters, including removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and other related cases.
  • Conduct client consultations to assess their cases and provide strategic legal counsel.
  • Prepare and submit various immigration applications, including petitions for family-based immigration, humanitarian relief, citizenship, and EOIR cases.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications/packets to ensure accuracy and compliance with current laws.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, community-based organizations, and prosecutorial offices to stay updated on immigration law changes.
  • Conduct intakes and visits with detained clients at detention centers.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients and assess potential benefits in their cases.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a wide range of immigration matters.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years practicing immigration law, including experience with family-based petitions, EOIR, detained cases, and humanitarian applications.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage a caseload efficiently and move cases forward.
    • Experience in preparing legal documents, including legal briefs, petitions, and applications.
    • Proficiency with immigration case management software is preferred.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with associates and legal assistants.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
