Job Overview
A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Estates & Probate Attorney I with 3+ years of legal experience. The ideal candidate is self-directed, able to thrive with autonomy and support, and comfortable managing a caseload that is primarily generated by the firm's marketing efforts and other attorneys. The attorney will be expected to handle approximately 80% of the work provided by the firm and generate 20% of their own billable work. Duties

  • Mediation experience is highly preferred; trial experience is a plus but not required.
  • Research and analyze complex legal issues.
  • Write legal documents, including memorandums, briefs, letters, and other correspondence.
  • Market personal and firm services to prospective clients.
  • Perform discovery tasks, including handling electronically stored data and paper documents for litigation preparation.
  • Perform due diligence in legal matters related to contracts, agreements, and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Communicate and provide legal advice to clients.
  • Manage a schedule for client consultations and ensure effective follow-ups.
  • Close consultations efficiently, aiming for a closure rate of 30-50%.
  • Ensure timely approval of invoices and manage monthly cycles to maintain business health.
  • Oversee the full utilization of support staff to ensure productivity.
  • Update client information in the case management system, including fees, engagement, trust, and invoices.
  • Share tasks with other attorneys and support staff if workload is exceeded to meet community service objectives.
  • Engage in brand expansion efforts through blogs, social media, and professional organization participation.
  • Seek and collect positive client reviews and testimonials.
  • Bill an average of 1,500 hours annually, with expected collections of 1,400 hours.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing law.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school.
  • Admission (or eligibility for reciprocal admission) to the bar in the state of practice.
  • Strong writing and legal research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while maintaining a collaborative approach.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the bar in the state of practice or eligibility for reciprocal admission.
