Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to support its patent prosecution practice. The successful candidate will assist clients in protecting their technology by drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Additionally, the Patent Agent will support due diligence activities. This position requires 2-4 years of relevant experience and is based in New York City, NY.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Conduct patent searches and provide legal opinions on patentability.
• Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other communications from the USPTO.
• Assist in the preparation of legal documents related to patent prosecution.
• Conduct due diligence investigations, including patent portfolio analysis.
• Collaborate with clients to gather technical information and provide strategic advice on patent matters.
• Manage multiple assignments from partners and clients, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Provide support in patent litigation and licensing matters as needed.

Requirements:

• 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution or a related field.
• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).

Education:

• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).

Skills:

• Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in patent prosecution procedures and regulations.
• Ability to analyze complex technical information and provide clear legal advice.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
