Senior Immigration Attorney

A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney to join its Oak Park, Illinois office. Duties:

• Advise clients on immigration matters and provide strategic legal solutions.
• Represent detained and non-detained clients in immigration court proceedings and before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
• Manage a caseload efficiently while ensuring timely progression of cases.
• Conduct client intake at detention centers and manage case documentation.
• Prepare various immigration applications, including family-based petitions, removal defense, and humanitarian relief.
• Review immigration applications and make necessary amendments to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, governmental agencies, and community organizations on immigration law updates and changes.
• Meet with prospective clients for consultations and assess appropriate legal strategies.
• Develop case strategies, and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and testimony before the USCIS or in court.
• Perform legal research and analysis to determine possible case benefits.
• Draft and submit legal briefs and other relevant documents for various immigration proceedings.

Requirements:

• 5 to 8 years of experience in immigration law, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and other USCIS applications.
• Proven ability to manage a high caseload and move legal cases forward effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
• Experience in handling cases related to Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Relief, EOIR, Detained Cases, Citizenship, and other immigration matters.
• Ability to speak both English and Spanish is highly preferred.
• Proficient in the use of case management software.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the Illinois State Bar or eligibility to practice law in Illinois.

Certifications:

• Active bar membership in Illinois.
