Job Title: Senior Real Estate Associate Attorney / Special Counsel (Lender-Side Focus)

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Real Estate Associate Attorney or Special Counsel with a strong focus on lender-side representation in commercial real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of experience handling commercial real estate loans, particularly construction loans, and will be dedicated to working on lender-side matters for the majority of their time. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile transactions while advancing within a collaborative and dynamic legal environment.

Duties:

  • Represent lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions, with a focus on construction loans.
  • Manage complex loan transactions and work closely with clients to navigate all aspects of real estate finance.
  • Provide legal counsel on lender-side issues, including structuring, negotiating, and documenting loans.
  • Draft and review loan agreements, security instruments, and related documents.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure effective case management.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering exceptional service.
  • Stay informed of legal developments and trends in real estate and finance law to provide strategic guidance.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to the firm’s professional development initiatives.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 years of experience in a law firm setting, with a focus on lender-side commercial real estate transactions.
  • Strong understanding of construction financing and related legal structures.
  • Proven ability to handle high-level transactions and manage complex legal matters.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in the District of Columbia (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Skills:

  • Expertise in commercial real estate finance, particularly construction loans.
  • Advanced proficiency in drafting and negotiating real estate finance agreements.
  • Strong client management skills and ability to handle high-level client interactions.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
