Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Detroit, MI, is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate Attorney with 2+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will have experience handling a broad range of employment issues such as workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. The position involves litigation, including drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions, as well as taking and defending depositions and conducting administrative hearings. The associate will also be responsible for drafting workplace policies, conducting employee training, and providing day-to-day legal counsel to employers. Strong research, communication, and writing skills are essential.

Location:

Duties:

  • Represent clients in labor and employment litigation, including drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions.
  • Take and defend depositions and represent clients at administrative hearings.
  • Provide legal counsel and advice on workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination matters.
  • Draft workplace policies and conduct employee training sessions.
  • Advise employers on day-to-day labor and employment issues.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal opinions, memoranda, and reports.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and provide legal support in various employment-related matters.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and employment law.
  • Experience in litigation, including drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions and conducting administrative hearings is preferred.
  • Ability to handle workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination cases.
  • Strong research, writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan or eligible to waive in.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the Michigan Bar or eligibility to waive in.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills, including drafting legal documents and taking depositions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in legal research and analysis.
  • Experience with workplace policies, employee training, and advising employers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws, regulations, and best practices.
