Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Huntsville, AL is seeking a qualified Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join their Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, specifically within their Electrical Engineering & Software Team. The role involves both patent prosecution and litigation work, focusing on technologies related to computer science, electrical engineering, and telecommunications.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, focusing on electrical engineering, software, and related technologies.
  • Represent clients in patent litigation matters, including both district court and USPTO proceedings.
  • Analyze and evaluate patent portfolios, providing legal guidance and strategic advice to clients.
  • Manage patent prosecution timelines, ensuring adherence to deadlines and submission requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and clients to understand and protect innovative technologies.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and conduct interviews with patent examiners.
  • Stay updated with changes in patent laws and technology trends, applying knowledge to enhance legal strategies.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on electrical engineering, software, or a related field.
  • Design engineering experience with a chip company is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in networking, software, or wireless technologies such as 3G/4G/5G is a plus.
  • Candidates must be admitted to the USPTO and have 2-6 years of legal experience.
  • Licensure to practice law (or eligibility to obtain licensure) in the state of employment is required.
  • Bar membership in California is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong analytical abilities.
  • Must be a member of the USPTO.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Admission (Required).
  • Alabama State Bar Admission Required.
  • Bar licensure in California is a plus.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of patent law and prosecution procedures.
  • Strong technical background in electrical engineering, software, or telecommunications.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal and technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in patent litigation is beneficial but not required.
