Job Overview:

A well-established law firm is seeking an International Trade Associate with 1-3 years of experience to support the export controls section of its practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in U.S. export controls, national security-related trade controls (e.g., outbound investment, ICTS), and U.S. sanctions. Familiarity with trade remedies, trade policy, and customs is a plus. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-stakes international trade issues while working in a collaborative environment with a team dedicated to excellence.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. export controls and national security-related trade regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Assist clients with compliance audits, internal investigations, and identifying potential violations of export controls and economic sanctions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and address regulatory liabilities related to export controls.
  • Provide guidance on export classification, licensing, and compliance under U.S. regulations.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess and address international trade issues related to economic sanctions, trade remedies, and customs.
  • Support the preparation of legal opinions, compliance documentation, and strategies to ensure clients’ adherence to U.S. export control laws.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience in U.S. export controls and national security-related trade controls.
  • Familiarity with U.S. sanctions, trade remedies, trade policy, and customs is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of the EAR, ITAR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Ability to advise clients on complex regulatory matters and devise effective compliance strategies.
  • Proven experience in legal research, writing, and regulatory analysis.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage complex and sensitive matters.

Education:

  • Stellar academic credentials from a top-tier law school.
  • Top-tier law firm experience is highly preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in a U.S. jurisdiction is required.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. export controls, including EAR and ITAR.
  • Ability to navigate complex international trade regulations and provide actionable legal advice.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team while also managing individual responsibilities.
