Job Overview:

A law firm located in Washington, DC is seeking a skilled Life Sciences Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will be a USPTO registered Patent Agent with a strong background in Life Sciences patent prosecution. This role demands exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and relevant experience in patent prosecution within the Life Sciences sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file patent applications with the USPTO, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze the patentability of inventions in the Life Sciences field.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, including responses to office actions and appeal briefs.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, inventors, and clients to gather information and provide strategic advice on patent matters.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios to assess potential risks and opportunities for clients.
  • Stay updated on changes in patent laws, regulations, and industry trends.

Requirements:

  • USPTO registration as a Patent Agent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in patent prosecution, preferably in the Life Sciences field.
  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences (e.g., Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education:

  • Advanced degree in a Life Sciences discipline (e.g., Ph.D., M.S.) or commensurate experience.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Patent Agent Registration.

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and documentation.
  • Ability to analyze complex scientific and technical information.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with patent laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Experience with patent prosecution in the Life Sciences field is preferred.
