A law firm in New Orleans is seeking a Lateral Offshore Energy and Maritime Attorney with 5-10 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing companies in offshore contract disputes and litigation involving maritime matters, including USCG investigations and Jones Act claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a caseload from beginning to end, including maritime disputes, personal injury claims, property damage, and environmental issues.
  • Regularly handle court appearances, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Lead client communication and provide updates on case developments.
  • Advise clients on complex maritime and energy-related legal matters, including operations, shipping regulations, marine insurance, and environmental regulations.
  • Represent clients in various legal proceedings advocating for their interests in maritime and civil litigation matters.
  • Handle claims under General Maritime Law and the Jones Act.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience in offshore energy and maritime law.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active State Bar license (Louisiana preferred; attorneys licensed outside of Louisiana willing to relocate are encouraged to apply).
  • Strong academic credentials and a track record of high achievement.
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active State Bar license (Louisiana preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy abilities.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload effectively.
  • Experience with maritime disputes, including USCG investigations and Jones Act claims.
  • Familiarity with maritime operations, shipping regulations, and marine insurance.
