Insurance and Catastrophic Loss Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm is seeking an experienced Attorney to join its Insurance and Catastrophic Loss Group. The role involves managing and driving insurance cases, conducting legal research, drafting motions and briefs, analyzing coverage, and participating in litigation processes such as discovery and depositions. The Attorney will also assist with marketing efforts, including articles and presentations. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills.

Duties

• Manage diverse case loads and case teams, prioritizing assignments effectively.
• Collaborate with partners to drive cases forward, propose strategies, and make recommendations.
• Handle all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, and motion practice.
• Take and defend depositions as necessary.
• Conduct legal research and provide support to the Insurance and Catastrophic Loss Group.
• Draft correspondence relevant to litigation and claims handling.
• Perform coverage analysis and evaluate claims.
• Align with firm policies and practices while managing case responsibilities.
• Assess legal implications of assigned projects and report findings to lead attorneys.
• Contribute to marketing efforts through articles, presentations, and other initiatives.

Requirements

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar.

Experience

• At least 8 years of experience handling complex litigation.
• Experience with insurance coverage (first and/or third-party) is highly preferred.

Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of judicial processes, courts, laws, and regulations related to insurance coverage and litigation.
• Proficiency in ECF filing, PACER, Novus, and Relativity is a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of staff and external representatives.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality legal work under tight deadlines.
• Effective utilization of legal software and technology tools.

This small Boston office is the outpost of a large national firm with headquarters in the Midwest. Although the firm projects enlarging this office to become a full-service practice unto itself, right now, the focus is primarily litigation and in particular in defense of several of this firm's key insurance clientele.
