Defense Associate Attorney

A law firm in Roseland, NJ is seeking a Defense Associate Attorney to manage a diverse caseload with oversight from senior partners. The successful candidate will handle various tasks including drafting legal documents, attending court proceedings, and conducting depositions. This role requires superior communication skills, organizational ability, and familiarity with NJ and NY Civil Court Rules. Ideal for individuals with 1-5 years of experience in representing architects and engineers in complex construction claims.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage an assigned caseload with oversight from partners.
• Draft motions, pleadings, and discovery responses.
• Conduct legal research and write memorandums on relevant issues.
• Attend hearings and court conferences.
• Conduct and defend depositions.
• Attend inspections as necessary.
• Consult with expert witnesses to support case strategies.
• Attend mediations to negotiate settlements and resolve disputes.
• Prepare for trials and participate in trial proceedings.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in New Jersey (required).
• Additional licensing in New York is a plus.
• 1-5 years of experience representing architects and engineers, with a focus on complex construction claims.
• Superior written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high caseload effectively.
• Familiarity with NJ and NY Civil Court Rules.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in New Jersey (required).
• Additional state bar licenses (NY) are a plus.
