The ideal candidate will have a strong background in counseling, training, licensing, opinion work, filings, compliance audits, internal investigations, responding to government enforcement actions, and developing compliance policies.Duties and Responsibilities:Provide legal counsel and strategic advice on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs (including tariffs), and other international trade regulations.Conduct compliance audits and internal investigations related to regulatory issues.Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures tailored to client needs.Handle licensing matters and prepare regulatory filings as required.Respond to government enforcement actions and inquiries.Conduct training sessions for clients on regulatory compliance and best practices.Stay updated on changes in regulations and ensure clients remain compliant with evolving laws.Assist in investigations related to other areas such as FCPA and national security matters (CFIUS).Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier U.S. law school.Active membership in good standing with the DC Bar.Minimum X years of experience in a law firm environment, specializing in regulations, investigations, securities, and compliance.Strong academic credentials and a demonstrated record of success.Experience with large law firm practices is preferred but not required.Skills:Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to effectively counsel clients on complex regulatory issues.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.Proficiency in legal research and drafting legal documents.Certifications:Certification or specialization in relevant areas of law (e.g., compliance, securities) is a plus.
