City Prosecutor

Job Overview:
A dynamic law firm is seeking a highly motivated City Prosecutor with 1-2 years of criminal prosecution or defense experience to join its Los Angeles office. The role involves prosecuting criminal misdemeanor violations of local laws on behalf of multiple cities throughout Southern California. The City Prosecutor will handle a variety of responsibilities, including evaluating law enforcement reports, preparing criminal complaints, conducting trials, and providing legal counsel to city officials. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on complex legal matters while serving the public interest.

Location:

• Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

• Prosecute criminal misdemeanor violations related to building, fire, health and safety, land-use, and other local ordinances.
• Evaluate law enforcement reports and make filing determinations.
• Prepare and file criminal complaints.
• Argue pre-trial motions and handle arraignments, pre-trials, jury trials, sentencing, and post-conviction hearings.
• Provide legal advice to law enforcement on special investigations.
• Represent City Staff in administrative hearings before hearing officers/boards, Planning Commissions, and City Councils.
• Draft and evaluate local ordinances, offering advice on legislative matters.

Requirements:

• 1-2 years of criminal prosecution or defense experience.
• Active membership in the California State Bar.
• Experience handling criminal cases, including trials and pre-trial motions.
• Strong writing and research skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Self-confidence and attention to detail, especially when working in court.
• Ability to collaborate with other attorneys and work in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Current membership in the California State Bar.

Skills:

• Strong litigation skills, including trial preparation and courtroom experience.
• Excellent legal research and writing capabilities.
• Ability to analyze and interpret legal issues in complex cases.
• Good communication skills for client interaction and court presentations.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
