Job Title: Patent Agent - Medical Devices

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm, based in Chicago, IL, is looking for a skilled Patent Agent to join its dynamic intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent drafting and prosecution, especially in the fields of medical devices and bioengineering. Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Respond to office actions issued by the USPTO.
  • Assist in the preparation of patent opinions.
  • Conduct thorough prior art searches and analyses.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients on complex IP matters.
  • Stay updated on advancements in medical devices, bioengineering, and related industries.
  • Manage and monitor the progress of patent filings and maintain client relationships.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent, with a focus on medical devices and bioengineering.
  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Proven experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, and conducting prior art searches.
  • Strong understanding of patent law and intellectual property concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field. An advanced degree (MS or PhD) is preferred.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration (required).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex patent laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in patent drafting tools and software.
  • Ability to interact with clients and technical teams effectively.
