A law firm in San Diego, CA is seeking a dedicated Private Education Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in California and have experience working with private and independent schools. This role involves handling a variety of legal matters related to private education, including contracts, policies, and employee and student issues. Experience with private schools or non-profits in relevant areas is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise private and independent schools on a wide range of legal matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate enrollment agreements, employment contracts, waivers, and severance agreements.
  • Develop and update employee and student/parent policies and handbooks.
  • Conduct investigations into employee and student matters, including disciplinary issues.
  • Handle tuition disputes, terminations, and wage and hour issues.
  • Provide guidance on privacy issues and mandated reporting requirements.
  • Support schools in governance matters, business operations, and facilities issues.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to ensure legal compliance and address legal concerns.
  • Represent clients in disputes related to employment, student issues, and other education-related matters.
  • Stay current with changes in laws and regulations affecting private education and apply them to client matters.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of California.
  • 2-3 years of experience in employment matters.
  • Experience working with private schools or non-profits in areas such as employment, student issues, governance, or business and facilities is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in California.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment law, education law, and related legal areas.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating contracts and policies.
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and projects efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Proficient in legal research and analysis.
