Job Overview: A law firm in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a dedicated and skilled Immigration Attorney to join its expanding team. This role involves providing legal representation and guidance in immigration and family law matters, with a focus on special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS) and related cases. The position calls for a committed professional with the ability to manage cases effectively and collaborate within a dynamic work environment.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in family court proceedings, emphasizing SIJS cases, custody orders, and immigration hearings, trials, and appeals.
  • Offer legal counsel on a range of immigration issues, including family-based petitions, adjustments of status, naturalization, and removal defense.
  • Prepare and file immigration-related petitions, applications, and documentation with various agencies, including USCIS, DOS, and EOIR.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis related to immigration laws and policies.
  • Monitor and interpret policy changes impacting clients, offering compliance advice as needed.
  • Engage with clients directly, fostering strong, trust-based relationships.
  • Manage a significant caseload and meet established case completion goals.
  • Perform client consultations and guide potential clients through available legal options.
  • Collaborate effectively with paralegals and other legal staff to ensure thorough case preparation.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities within a collaborative team setting.

Requirements:

  • Active Bar membership in Virginia (or another state), in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in family or immigration law, especially SIJS cases.
  • Proven experience in drafting and writing legal documents (3+ years preferred).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships effectively.
  • Experience working with immigrant communities.
  • Proficiency in Spanish to communicate directly with clients.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Bar of any state, with eligibility to practice before immigration courts and USCIS.
