Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Renewable Energy Project Development & Finance Associate to join its Corporate practice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with leading clients in the clean energy sector, including projects related to wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage across the U.S. The position provides hands-on experience, a collaborative work environment, and the flexibility to work remotely, hybrid, or in-office. Location:

  • Billings, MT

Duties:

  • Work with clients at the forefront of the clean energy industry on renewable energy projects across the U.S.
  • Provide legal advice and assistance in project development, finance, and mergers & acquisitions within the renewable energy sector.
  • Draft and negotiate power purchase agreements, purchase and sale agreements, hedge contracts, construction contracts, and equipment supply agreements.
  • Collaborate with developers, investors, corporate buyers, and utilities in the renewable energy space.
  • Contribute to the creation of sustainable energy projects while working with both conventional and renewable energy producers transitioning to clean energy sources.
  • Engage in client communication, contract negotiation, and project financing matters.
  • Provide legal support for the purchase, sale, and management of renewable energy assets.
  • Assist in ensuring projects meet environmental, regulatory, and financial requirements.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of law firm experience in project development, finance, mergers & acquisitions, or commercial contracts.
  • Experience in the renewable energy industry is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with power purchase agreements, company or asset purchase agreements, hedge contracts, and construction contracts is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage directly with clients.
  • Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of the legal aspects of energy transactions.
  • Ability to handle complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, team-oriented approach with a proactive attitude.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in the relevant state (or ability to waive in) is required.

Skills:

  • Experience in renewable energy project development and finance.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Familiarity with mergers & acquisitions in the energy sector.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong client relationship management skills.
