A law firm in Wheaton, IL is seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney with 1-3 years of experience to work alongside partners on complex commercial litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have strong drafting, negotiating, and communication skills. Responsibilities include client meetings, drafting pleadings, taking depositions, and participating in trials and arbitrations. The role requires being licensed in Illinois and admitted to practice in both state and federal court.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with partners on complex commercial litigation matters.
  • Meet with clients to discuss case strategies, provide updates, and gather information.
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses.
  • Take and defend depositions, including preparing witnesses and analyzing deposition transcripts.
  • Propound and respond to discovery requests, including document production and interrogatories.
  • Conduct legal research and write legal memoranda to support case arguments.
  • Appear in court to argue motions, participate in hearings, and represent clients.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including interviewing witnesses and drafting trial briefs.
  • Negotiate settlements and attend mediations to resolve disputes.
  • Draft and review agreements related to ongoing litigation.
  • Participate in trials and arbitrations, providing support to senior attorneys and handling specific case aspects.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a licensed attorney, with a focus on litigation.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills, with experience in preparing litigation documents.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to effectively articulate legal arguments.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar and in good standing.
  • Admitted to practice in both state and federal court.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with a proven ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
  • Excellent oral communication skills for making court appearances, arguing motions, and participating in trials.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions, propounding and responding to discovery, and handling various litigation tasks.
  • Ability to negotiate settlements and participate in mediations effectively.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple aspects of complex cases.
