A law firm seeks a motivated and experienced junior associate to join their Intellectual Property practice in Boston, specializing in life sciences patent preparation and prosecution. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in this area, along with an advanced degree in a relevant scientific field. This is a full-time opportunity offering professional growth within a collaborative and dynamic legal environment.

Duties:

  • Manage and handle life sciences patent preparation and prosecution matters.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the fields of chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, and related life sciences disciplines.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and prepare related opinions for clients.
  • Work with senior attorneys to build and execute patent strategies for clients in the life sciences sector.
  • Interact with clients to understand their patent needs and provide legal counsel.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in life sciences to provide informed legal advice.
  • Assist in the development of client relationships and business development activities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in life sciences patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Strong background in a relevant scientific field (e.g., chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemical engineering).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently when required.

Education:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemical engineering, or related discipline.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the United States (member of the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction).

Skills:

  • Expertise in intellectual property law, specifically patent law and life sciences.
  • Strong technical writing skills, particularly in drafting patent applications.
  • Excellent verbal communication and client relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex legal and technical issues effectively.
  • High level of organization and project management skills.
