A law firm seeks a dynamic and motivated Civil Litigation Attorney to join its Traverse City, Michigan office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in civil litigation and/or municipal law. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding municipal law and litigation practice, contributing to various areas, including insurance defense, municipal law, employment and labor law, and general litigation.

Duties

  • Manage litigation cases from inception to trial, ensuring thorough preparation of pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Conduct legal research, analysis, and writing to support case strategies.
  • Oversee discovery processes, including managing documents and taking depositions.
  • Collaborate with clients, public entities, and colleagues to develop effective legal strategies.
  • Engage in negotiation and communication with various stakeholders, including opposing counsel.
  • Participate in court hearings and trials to represent clients effectively.
  • Stay updated on developments in civil litigation and municipal law to provide informed legal counsel.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Active admission to the Michigan Bar in good standing.
  • At least 3 years of litigation and/or municipal law experience is required.
  • Public entity defense experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to handling new projects and responsibilities.
  • Excellent analytical, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and electronic discovery platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities professionally and efficiently, ensuring high-quality client service.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Michigan Bar is required.
