A law firm seeks a patent prosecution associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its Electrical & Computer Technologies practice in Boston. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with leading innovators in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and related areas. The position will involve preparing and prosecuting patent applications, as well as providing strategic advice to clients across diverse industries.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with clients and inventors throughout all stages of the patent process.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and infringement analyses.
  • Assist with various patent-related projects as needed or requested.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in patent prosecution, ideally within the Electrical & Computer Technologies sector.
  • Strong understanding of patent law, including preparation, filing, and prosecution.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and provide clear, practical legal advice.
  • Proven experience with analyzing technical and legal aspects of patent applications.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to or eligibility for admission in Massachusetts, New York, or Washington, D.C.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific and technical information related to patent law.
