A law firm seeks an experienced Business Litigation Associate Attorney to join its San Diego office. This position is ideal for a candidate with 4-5 years of complex commercial litigation experience, preferably in technology litigation, class action defense, or company-to-company disputes. The role requires a strong ability to manage multiple high-level assignments while maintaining exceptional work product quality. The successful candidate will be tasked with overseeing junior associates and professional staff while working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Duties

  • Case Management

    • Handle complex commercial litigation cases from start to finish, ensuring thoughtful, strategic decision-making at every stage.
    • Lead project-based tasks, managing timelines and expectations while producing high-quality work.
    • Oversee and mentor junior associates and support staff, ensuring efficient case handling and professional development.
  • Legal Research and Drafting

    • Conduct in-depth legal research to support litigation strategies and case preparation.
    • Draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision and clarity, adhering to legal standards.
  • Client Interaction

    • Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on case progress and advising on legal options.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, helping to address their needs and concerns throughout litigation.
  • Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with other attorneys and staff to coordinate case strategies, share knowledge, and ensure cohesive legal approaches.
    • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss case developments and strategies for success.
  • Business Development

    • Contribute to the firm's growth by participating in marketing and business development efforts.
    • Assist in writing articles, presenting at seminars, or attending networking events to build the firm's reputation in the business litigation space.

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of experience in complex commercial litigation.
  • Background in a similar litigation department at a respected law firm.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proven experience mentoring junior associates and supporting professional staff.
  • High academic achievements from a well-regarded law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • Preferred but not required: Experience in technology litigation, class action defense, or company vs. company disputes.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California Bar.

Skills

  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both senior attorneys and junior associates.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for client interaction and internal collaboration.
  • Experience handling a variety of commercial litigation matters, with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.
