Job Overview: A law firm specializing in workers' compensation law seeks an experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to represent plaintiff employees in North Carolina. The role involves providing comprehensive legal counsel and representation throughout all phases of Workers' Compensation cases, from initial consultation to settlement or litigation.

Job Details:

  • Represent injured plaintiff employees in their North Carolina workers’ compensation cases.
  • Provide legal advice and representation during pre-litigation, litigation, discovery, settlement negotiation, and post-settlement phases.
  • Assist plaintiff employees in obtaining NC Workers’ Compensation Act benefits.
  • Litigate Workers’ Compensation cases at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and Court of Appeals levels.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery requests, orders, and motions.
  • Negotiate settlement agreements, including terms of release and job resignations for plaintiff-employee clients.
  • Draft briefs for hearings at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and NC Court of Appeals levels.
  • Supervise and manage Workers’ Compensation Case Managers and Paralegals.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience in a Workers’ Compensation law firm and insurance defense firm; plaintiff’s side experience preferred.
  • Experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Strong analytical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Self-motivated with initiative to complete tasks independently.
  • Excellent organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office; familiarity with Litify software preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical issues in contested and accepted Workers’ Compensation claims and familiarity with the hearing process.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical writing and verbal communication ability.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office and ability to learn new software.
  • Familiarity with Litify software is preferred.
