Job Overview:
A prominent law firm, located in Greenville, SC, is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation practice group. The position focuses on Electrical Engineering & Software or Mechanical patent matters. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting, and a solid academic background in engineering or a related technical field.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to Electrical Engineering, Software, or Mechanical inventions.
• Prepare and respond to Office Actions and other correspondences from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Collaborate with inventors and clients to understand technologies and guide them through the patent application process.
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, as well as provide strategic guidance on IP portfolio management.
• Work on both patent prosecution and litigation-related tasks as part of a diverse legal team.
• Assist in preparing legal opinions, including infringement, validity, and patentability analyses.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting.
• Must hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics).
• Strong knowledge and practical experience with USPTO processes.
• Registered with the USPTO as a Patent Agent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Superior organizational and analytical abilities.
• Experience with other forms of intellectual property law is a plus.

Education:

• A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar technical discipline.

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration as a Patent Agent is required.

• Expertise in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications.
• Strong understanding of patent law and USPTO procedures.
