Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate - Electrical Engineering & Software

Job Overview: A leading law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group within the Electrical Engineering & Software Team. This opportunity is available across multiple office locations and requires strong expertise in IP, particularly related to computer science, electrical engineering, and software. The ideal candidate will contribute to the firm's high-caliber work in patent prosecution and litigation matters while working with clients on cutting-edge technology.

Location:

• San Francisco, CA

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patents in the field of electrical engineering, software, and related technologies.
• Represent clients in patent litigation matters, including motion practice, discovery, and trial preparation.
• Collaborate with clients and team members to develop strategies for patent portfolio management.
• Provide legal counsel to clients on IP matters, including infringement analysis, patentability opinions, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Maintain and expand expertise in relevant technologies to deliver effective and informed legal services.

Requirements:

• IP experience with patent drafting and prosecution, with a strong background in electrical engineering, software, or computer science.
• Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus.
• Preference for experience in networking, software, and wireless technologies such as 3G/4G/5G.
• Admission to the USPTO required; candidates must be a member of the USPTO.
• 2-6 years of legal experience for associate candidates.
• Associates must be licensed to practice law or have the ability to become licensed in the state of employment. Bar licensure in California is a plus.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent academic credentials and superior organizational and analytical abilities.

Education:

• A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field is required.

Certifications:

• Must be admitted to the USPTO.
• Associate candidates must be licensed to practice law, or demonstrate the ability to become licensed promptly.
