Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm in New York City, NY, is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Mid-Level Patent Prosecution Associate to join its dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong background in patent prosecution, particularly in drafting applications, and experience in mechanical or electrical engineering. Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, including preparation and filing of documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio management, strategy, and patent prosecution issues
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, as well as infringement and validity assessments
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and technical experts to develop and implement intellectual property strategies
  • Manage client relationships, provide high-level counsel, and respond to client inquiries
  • Assist with patent litigation matters as needed, including discovery, depositions, and trial preparation

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting
  • Experience with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Must be admitted to the New York State Bar
  • Registration with the USPTO is required

Education:

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar technical discipline is required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • USPTO Registration
