Job Overview
A leading law firm located in Charlotte, NC, seeks a dedicated Claims Counsel II to join its team. This role involves managing and resolving professional and general liability claims with a strong focus on coverage evaluation, litigation management, and strategic resolution. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in liability claims handling, a meticulous eye for compliance, and an aptitude for independent judgment, driving effective outcomes while supporting insured clients and business partners.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive investigations and develop effective resolution strategies, including risk transfer and mediation.
  • Analyze and assess coverage obligations by evaluating policy language and preparing written coverage determinations.
  • Establish and maintain reserves with timely updates to reflect coverage, liability, and damages considerations.
  • Coordinate and oversee litigation, including hiring defense counsel, reviewing draft pleadings, and managing litigation budgets.
  • Document all claim-related activities in electronic claim files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Deliver exceptional service by interacting professionally with insured clients, claimants, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular status updates and respond promptly to information requests.
  • Manage claims proactively to closure, collaborating with business partners on resolution strategies.
  • Prepare and present claim evaluations to leadership, highlighting significant risks and exposures.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local regulatory standards.
  • Create detailed reports for management, clients, and other recipients.
  • Represent the firm in mediations, court appearances, and other proceedings; some travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Education: Juris Doctor Degree required.
  • Experience: 7 years of experience in claims management.
  • Certifications: Must hold an active insurance license in one or more of the following states: Florida, Texas, New York, or California.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in claims resolution and insurance principles.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
    • Demonstrated negotiation and presentation skills.
    • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other related software.
