A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its team in Marysville, WA, to provide comprehensive misdemeanor indigent defense services. The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice in Washington and have a passion for criminal defense work. This is a full-time, hybrid position that involves regular in-person court appearances. Duties:

  • Provide full-time misdemeanor indigent defense services by contracted services for local cities.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, both in-person and remotely, as required.
  • Handle all aspects of misdemeanor defense cases, from arraignment to resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with other attorneys to manage a caseload efficiently.
  • Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and client communications.
  • Ensure compliance with local court procedures and deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates and advise on legal strategies.
  • Appear in court multiple times per week as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Washington State.
  • A strong interest in criminal defense work, particularly in misdemeanor cases.
  • Ability to attend in-person court hearings regularly.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to manage a caseload and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience with criminal defense is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Washington State Bar License (required).

Skills:

  • Knowledge of criminal law and defense strategies.
  • Experience with legal writing, including motions, briefs, and client communications.
  • Strong negotiation and client advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with other team members.
