A law firm seeks an experienced Social Security Disability Attorney to join its team in Albany, NY. This full-time position offers a hybrid work schedule and provides opportunities for professional development. The ideal candidate will have experience managing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims, with a strong understanding of the entire claims process, from initial application to hearing and appeals.

Duties:

  • Client Representation: Represent clients in Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims, ensuring timely and thorough handling of all aspects of the case.
  • Case Management: Oversee the entire claims process, including case development, case strategy implementation, and managing a large caseload.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, including supervising case managers and coordinating client communications.
  • Claims Evaluation: Review case referrals and claim denials to assess the merits and scope of representation, providing clear legal advice to clients.
  • Administrative Appeals: Manage communications with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and represent clients at all levels of the administrative appeals process, including field offices, hearing offices, and the Appeals Council.
  • Hearing Preparation: Prepare clients and cases for hearings, including drafting pre- and post-hearing briefs and Appeals Council briefs.
  • Screening and Requests: Screen cases for dire need, critical case designation, and on-the-record requests.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience handling Social Security Disability cases.
  • Strong communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage large caseloads and collaborate effectively with other attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
  • Must be admitted to the New York State Bar, licensed, and in good standing.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Experience with direct client counseling is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active New York State Bar license.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in managing complex disability claims and litigation.
  • Excellent legal writing skills for drafting briefs, motions, and other submissions to SSA.
  • Strong client communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Knowledge of the Social Security Disability claims process and administrative appeals.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior staff members.
