A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice in the Cleveland, OH office. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in patent preparation and prosecution, with a focus on electrical, computer, software, and mechanical technologies. Applicants must be registered with the USPTO and hold a relevant undergraduate degree in engineering or a related technical field.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in electrical, computer, software, and mechanical technologies.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Draft claims and specifications for patent applications, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with patent law.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their innovations and provide strategic guidance.
  • Manage patent portfolios, monitor filing deadlines, and maintain relationships with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Stay updated on changes in patent law and best practices, ensuring high-quality service and risk mitigation.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, specifically in electrical, computer, software, or mechanical technologies.
  • Registered with the USPTO as a Patent Agent.
  • Strong academic background with a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration as a Patent Agent.

Skills:
