Job Overview: A well-established law firm in Hampton, VA is seeking a dedicated Personal Injury Litigation Attorney to join the team. The successful candidate will handle personal injury cases from start to finish, managing all phases of litigation, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, settlement negotiations, and appeals. This role offers the opportunity to work with a supportive team of legal professionals in a fast-paced environment with a focus on client advocacy and litigation.

Duties:

  • Represent personal injury clients through all phases of litigation.
  • Handle a caseload from initial intake to case resolution.
  • Conduct case assessments and evaluate the value of cases within 30 days of assignment.
  • Prepare legal documents, including claims, motions, discovery responses, demand letters, pleadings, and subpoenas.
  • Meet all pre-litigation and litigation filing deadlines.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients, answering questions and providing updates within 48 hours.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses, insurance adjusters, supporting witnesses, and medical providers to gather relevant case information.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients.
  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials in both state and federal courts.
  • Review liens and expenses prior to settlement disbursement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in the State Bar Association and a valid state license to practice law.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in personal injury litigation with significant trial experience.
  • Trial experience in medical malpractice, wrongful death, or civil litigation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of personal injury/tort law and medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and other relevant software.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment screening.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the relevant state.
