A law firm seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join its Jackson, MI office. This role focuses on handling consumer and commercial debt collection caseloads, offering excellent opportunities for professional development and courtroom experience. Both experienced attorneys and recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply. The position requires strong litigation skills, including the ability to prepare and execute court calls, handle motions and contested hearings, and draft various legal documents.

Duties:

  • Prepare and execute court calls, representing clients in hearings and trials.
  • Handle motions, contested hearings, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Draft, review, and approve pleadings, including complaints, motions, discovery, and post-judgment supplemental proceedings.
  • Manage a high-volume caseload related to consumer and commercial debt collection.
  • Work closely with clients to develop and implement case strategies.
  • Ensure that all legal documents are timely and accurately filed.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings and communicate with opposing counsel effectively.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Michigan.
  • Strong experience or interest in litigation, particularly in debt collection.
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and court practices related to debt collection.
  • Strong drafting, communication, and legal research skills.
  • Ability to handle a high-volume caseload and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Law licenses in Kentucky, Indiana, and/or Ohio are a plus but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Michigan Bar license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Additional licenses in Kentucky, Indiana, and/or Ohio are a plus but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle complex debt collection cases in various stages of litigation.
  • Proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
