Job Overview

A law firm seeks a passionate and motivated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its growing legal team in San Jose, CA. This is a unique opportunity for a newly admitted attorney or a recent law school graduate to gain hands-on experience in immigration law while working alongside experienced attorneys and legal professionals. The firm is dedicated to advocating for clients’ rights and providing innovative legal solutions in complex immigration matters.

Duties

  • Explain immigration processes, legal concepts, and potential strategies to clients in understandable terms.
  • Represent clients in immigration proceedings, including detained and non-detained cases, before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Conduct case intakes with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare and file a wide range of immigration applications, including family-based petitions and removal defense filings.
  • Review and refine immigration filings to ensure completeness and compliance.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and community organizations to stay informed on immigration law developments.
  • Conduct consultations with potential clients to assess their cases and recommend strategies.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony before immigration authorities and courts.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to identify potential case benefits and options for clients.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for diverse immigration matters.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion for immigration law, shown through law school clinics, internships, volunteer work, or relevant experiences.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle a caseload efficiently.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team while also working independently.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience using case management software is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to a State Bar (recent graduates awaiting bar admission will also be considered).

Certifications

  • Active State Bar license or confirmation of pending admission.
